Shadow Minister for Defence Procurement speaks to BBC Wales about Morpheus Programme

Aug 24, 2023

Chris Evans MP has spoken to BBC Wales over the £330m Morpheus programme being designed at General Dynamics in Oakdale. Mr Evans shared his concerns about the potential impact on jobs in the area if there continues to be delays to the programme and if future contracts are no longer awarded to General Dynamics.

Speaking to BBC Wales in August, Mr Evans said:

“I am extremely worried about the jobs”

“I am also extremely worried about whether the MoD is going to be reticent about further contracts. If they don’t award further contracts those jobs are not going to be here.”

“I have spoken to the company, they told me there were problems and that they were dealing with them,”

“Yes it is commercially sensitive, but for those workers there – very motivated workers – to be labelled as failing to meet targets it is a real concern for them as well.”
