Shadow Defence Procurement Minister calls for more investment in apprenticeships.

Oct 14, 2021

Islwyn MP and Shadow Defence Procurement Minister has said the only way the UK can compete in a competitive global market is by investing and promoting apprenticeships.

Mr Evans made the call on a visit with fellow Defence Minister, Lord Vernon Coaker to Leonardo Helicopters in Yeovil.

After learning about the company’s apprentices about the value they bring to the business, Mr Evans said:

“Apprenticeships are vital to the workforce and bring highly skilled jobs into industry. It is vital that we support more apprenticeships to encourage more of our young people into the engineering sectors.

“It was wonderful to talk to staff there who had first had contact with Leonardo in primary school and had been encouraged to think about engineering as an exciting career from such an early age. The work that Leonardo does in encouraging engineering and STEM in schools is vital, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to speak to those who now work there because of this.
