Islwyn MP Chris Evans has now been announced as Shadow Minister for Social Security in Labour’s team for the Department of Work and Pensions.
Mr Evans had formerly held the role of Shadow Minister for Defence Procurement where he had raised concerns about the loss of Welsh jobs due to issues with the Morpheus programme run by General Dynamics.
In his new role as Shadow Minister for Social Security, Mr Evans will be responsible for holding the Government to account on the welfare system and working-age benefits.
Chris Evans MP said:
“I am thrilled to join Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Liz Kendall MP and the team in my new role. Social security has always been an issue I am passionate about – it deeply affects the lives of my constituents and has been completely neglected by the Tories for years.
Labour will reform the social security system to ensure that it tackles poverty and supports those hit hardest by the Tories cost of living crisis.”
