Chris Evans MP and Rhianon Passmore MS come together to support and celebrate Macmillian Coffee Morning

Oct 3, 2022

On Friday, the MP and MS for Islwyn, supported people living with cancer by holding a Macmillan coffee morning at Mr Evans’ office in Pontllanfraith.

There are over 3 million people with cancer across the UK and with the rising cost of living crisis, Macmillan are warning that ‘patients are facing impossible choice’ between getting to hospital appointments or food and water.

New figures from Macmillan show that an estimated 66% of people living with cancer are already concerned about the rising cost of living and least 20,000 cancer patients have delayed or cancelled their travel to medical appointments related to their cancer diagnosis or treatment.

Delaying or cancelling vital treatment and appointments could have had major implications on both people’s health and prognosis. Chris Evans MP and Rhianon Passmore are therefore raising awareness of this growing issue and supporting Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Chris Evans MP said

“Macmillan Cancer Support provides vital support for everyone living with cancer and I am proud to be raising a mug and celebrating today’s Macmillan Coffee Morning.

It is vital people living with cancer can access lifesaving treatment without having to make the impossible choice between essentials, like food and water, or their treatment.”

Rhianon Passmore MS said

“It was lovely to take part in Macmillan’s Coffee Morning today, supporting people living with cancer in Islwyn.

This Macmillan coffee morning I am raising awareness on the impact the cost-of-living crisis is having on people living with cancer and I am continuing to support the crucial work of Macmillan Cancer Support”

Macmillan Cancer Support is there for advice, support or a listening ear. The Macmillan support line is available for everyone living with cancer and is open 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on 0808 808 00 00.
