Reserves day

Chris Evans MP calls on employers to thank Reservists for their dedication.

The MP for Islwyn, Chris Evans has called on employers across the UK to take the opportunity of Reserves day on the 23rd June to celebrate for our Reservists.

The Reserve Forces make up around one sixth of Armed Forces personnel and are therefore integral to the security of our nation. Reservists are particularly vital in providing capabilities in specialist areas, such as medical and cyber, as we have seen during the pandemic. Throughout the last year, Reservists have been deployed widely to help fight covid-19, providing medical and logistical support.

Yet, Mr Evans has said, “the valuable contribution Reservists make often goes unrecognised”. As such, he is calling on employers to show their support and celebrate Reserves Day this year.

Celebrated on 23rd June, Reserves day is an opportunity to thank our Reservists, which currently number around 30,000 including former military personnel.

Mr Evans said:

“Reserves give up their spare time and balance civilian and military careers to ensure that they are ready to serve should their country require it of them. This is an extraordinary thing to do, and something that should be widely celebrated.”

“I hope that businesses and employers will take this opportunity to thank Reservists who work for them, and to celebrate the contribution that they make to our Armed Forces, and our society as a whole.”
