This World Parkinson’s Day, April 11th, Chris Evans MP is spreading awareness of Parkinson’s and its main symptoms so that people can spot the condition early and get the support they need.
Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurodegenerative condition in the world. Currently in Wales, Parkinson’s UK estimates that there are 7700 people living with Parkinson’s, with a total of 145,000 people across the UK.
There are over 40 symptoms of Parkinson’s, these can include tremors and shaking, slowness of movement and muscle stiffness. Identifying symptoms early will help those who are living with the condition to get the support and treatment they need as soon as possible.
April is also Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and the Islwyn MP is encouraging everyone to get active, whether you have Parkinson’s or know with someone who does.
Parkinson’s UK suggests that being active for 2.5 hours a week can help manage Parkinson’s symptoms. Therefore, Mr Evans is encouraging everyone to spend this April getting active by walking, running, cycling or any way that gets the body moving. There is no one-size-fits-all approach but being active consistently can help manage symptoms and have a positive impact both physically and mentally.
