Chris Evans MP supports Guide Dogs to highlight pavement parking problem

Dec 4, 2024

Chris Evans, MP for Caerphilly, met representatives of Guide Dogs in Parliament today to support the campaign against pavement parking.

Pavement parking can create danger for people using the pavement, especially those with sight loss, who may be forced to walk into the road amid traffic that they cannot see.

Over a third of people with sight loss surveyed by Guide Dogs said that pavement parking made it more difficult for them to go out socially.

Chris Evans MP said:

‘A quick decision to park on the pavement may seem inconsequential to many, but it is crucial to the safety of people on the pavement, including those with sight loss, that we keep it clear.

‘It can also impact people using mobility aids or with children in pushchairs.

‘Over 95% of people with sight loss report that they have been forced to walk out into the road because of vehicles on the pavement. This is an unacceptable threat to their safety, and I urge everyone to be thoughtful about where they leave their vehicle.’
