Chris Evans MP meets with Stagecoach South Wales to discuss proposed changes to bus services

Jan 19, 2023

Chris Evans MP for Islwyn, met with Nigel Winter, Managing Director of Stagecoach South Wales on Friday 13th January to discuss the proposed changes to the bus services in Ty Sign, Risca.

The proposed changes to the R1/R2 and 55/55 have caused significant concern to local residents as it would see the loss of a direct bus route to the local school, hospital and supermarket.

Mr Evans met with Mr Winter to voice the concerns of his constituents who worry about both the environmental impact of these changes as well as the impact on the older population in the area.

Following the meeting with Stagecoach, Mr Evans said:

“Many of my constituents rely on public transport to get to and from work, school, the local hospital and supermarket.”

“I have been contacted by numerous constituents who without these bus routes would be left isolated or forced to drive”

“That is why I am pleased to hear that after meeting with Mr Winter, Stagecoach has decided to keep certain routes in place to keep Risca accessible for my constituents”

Stagecoach are encouraging people to reach out and share their views about the proposed changes to the bus routes.
