Caerphilly MP talks democracy with thriving Cubs group

Earlier this month, the Member of Parliament for Caerphilly, Chris Evans, paid a visit to the 2nd Caerphilly Cubs group to discuss democracy and answer questions from the Cubs.

The Cubs grilled Mr. Evans on a range of topics including his work in London and in Caerphilly as an MP, how elections work, whether phones should be allowed in schools, and the importance of education and looking after each other.

They also took part in an activity where they worked in groups to prioritise how a government should spend money on issues such as education, health, policing, transport, welfare, and overseas aid.

Mr Evans said: “It was a pleasure to meet the 2nd Caerphilly Cubs and answer their questions. Politics is not just about what goes on in London, or Cardiff Bay, or in the Council. Our democracy is much bigger than that, and involves everyone, everywhere, and of all ages.

“I was impressed by how engaged the Cubs were in the activity, and how much thought they put into what matters most to them. They asked me some really hard questions, and I will be writing to the Government about some of them.

“I also want to thank Matt Body and everyone else who keeps groups like the 2nd Caerphilly Cubs thriving. They play such a vital, irreplaceable role in our communities and I want to wish them continued success.”

The volunteer leaders at Caerphilly 2nd Cubs, said: “We were delighted that Chris was able to meet the Cubs. This was a brilliant opportunity for them to learn about our democracy and their important role in it, and we look forward to doing more activities like this in the future.”
