Caerphilly MP opposes Maesycwmmer McDonalds Plan

Nov 19, 2025

The Member of Parliament for Caerphilly, Chris Evans, has opposed a plan to build a McDonalds Restaurant and Drive-Thru off the A472 in Maesycwmmer.

McDonalds ran a pre-application consultation from 5th November – 19th November 2025, which sought feedback from the community on the plans prior to submission to Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Mr. Evans wrote a letter to the Chief Executive of McDonalds, Lauren Schultz, detailing his opposition on the grounds of traffic congestion on the A472 and A469, potential increases in litter, disruption to local residents, and lack of need.

Mr. Evans said: “Many people have contacted me about McDonalds’ plans to open a new site off the A472 in Maesycwmmer. I think these plans are deeply flawed and I oppose them.

“Anyone who uses that road will know that traffic never flows freely. Adding a McDonalds to this road will only make this problem worse. A McDonalds will also cause disruption to people who have homes very close to the site through litter, light and noise.

“I think McDonalds should reconsider these plans and take the views of my constituents very seriously before taking them any further. Due to the traffic situation, and how close it is to housing, it seems unlikely that this site will ever be suitable for this kind of development.”
