Chris Evans, the Member of Parliament for Caerphilly, has encouraged constituents to consider applying to join an apprenticeship scheme run by local employer BRUSH Switchgear.
On 4th July, the MP received a tour of the company’s site in Hawtin Park, Pontllanfraith, accompanied by BRUSH Group CEO Nicolas Pitrat and BRUSH Switchgear Business Operations Director Jason King. During the visit, Mr. Evans heard about the apprenticeship scheme and the opportunities on offer for local young people.
BRUSH have a long history over several generations working with local young people. They continue to work with Coleg Gwent and offer apprenticeships in engineering, manufacturing, and other business-related disciplines.
Mr. Evans also learned more about the company’s new switchgear product CRYNO, which means “compact” in Welsh. Switchgears provide much-needed reliability and stability of electrical power systems across Wales, the UK, and beyond.
Mr. Evans said: “I want to thank BRUSH for showing me around their site in Pontllanfraith. It is fantastic to see a business with such deep roots in the community continuing to thrive and make things that we all rely on.
“Apprenticeships can be a vital first step into a lucrative and rewarding career path. Those on the scheme run by BRUSH can earn while they learn vital skills, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.”
BRUSH Group CEO, Nicolas Pitrat said: “I was delighted to welcome Chris Evans MP to our state-of-the-art switchgear manufacturing facility from which we proudly innovate, design, and manufacture switchgear solutions that form part of the UK’s energy infrastructure.”
“As a champion of training and development, we are proud that we have encouraged countless young people to choose a career in engineering, developing generations of engineers whose expertise, skills, and passion for innovation continue to power the UK and contribute to the transition to net zero.”
