‘The valleys are full of hidden artistic talent’ says Islwyn MP

The MP for Islwyn, Chris Evans, has celebrated the skill and talent of local artists at an award ceremony and exhibition at Argoed Baptist Chapel.

An exhibition and awards ceremony, held by the Mid Valleys East Art Society, showcased and awarded local artists of all ages. Exhibitors had submitted a wide range of pieces on a number of media.

Artists were earlier challenged to produce the artwork for Mr Evans’ 2017 Christmas card and, together with local Councillor Walter Williams, decided on a snowy Parliamentary scene painted by local resident Wendy Frowen.

Mr Evans said: ‘I regularly attend exhibitions hosted by the Art Society and I am always stunned by the high quality of the artworks. It goes to show the valleys are full of hidden artistic talent.

‘I would like give special thank you to everyone who took part in the Christmas card competition. Every entry was fantastic but Wendy’s piece really stood out and I am looking forward to seeing it in print.

‘I would also like to congratulate everyone – young and old – who won an award and I look forward to attending again in future.’
