Chris Evans, Member of Parliament for Islwyn, is urging his constituents to learn the 4Ts to help spot type 1 diabetes early in children.
Diabetes UK list the 4Ts as:
Toilet – Going to the toilet a lot, bed wetting by a previously dry child or heavier nappies in babies.
Thirsty – Being really thirsty and not being able to quench the thirst.
Tired – Feeling more tired than usual.
Thinner – Losing weight or looking thinner than usually by making sure children and young people get a quick diagnosis and early treatment, we can avoid them becoming seriously ill with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).
Mr Evans said: ‘Spotting type 1 diabetes early is crucial. Without an early diagnosis serious medical attention can be required.
‘Getting tested for diabetes is as easy as a simple finger-prick blood test, which a GP can do.
‘I would urge anyone who spots the 4Ts in a child to take them to a doctor as soon as possible.’
