‘Islwyn is a great place to do business’ says MP Chris Evans, as Oakdale-based business General Dynamics showcased its success at a reception in London’s famed Churchill War Rooms.
General Dynamics’ UK headquarters are based on the site of the former Oakdale colliery – making it one of Islwyn’s biggest employers. It is a key supplier to the Ministry of Defence and the UK Armed Forces, being responsible for the Bowman tactical communications system.
The Bowman communications programme has contributed £2.5 billion to the Welsh economy alone since 2001, and £4.5 billion to the UK economy overall.
Speaking at the reception, Mr Evans said: ‘It is a privilege to have General Dynamics based in my constituency of Islwyn. The positive impact that they have had on the Welsh economy is something to be commended, as is the important work they are doing to support our Armed Forces and keep our country safe.
The success of General Dynamics has proven that Islwyn is a prime location for investment and industry. I am hopeful to see industry expansion here, providing more job opportunities for my constituents and increased contributions to the Welsh and UK economies.’
